Magic at Home: DIY Mickey Pumpkins

Time to get magically spooky!

Ready to add a bit of Mickey magic to your Halloween season? Well do I have a craft for you! Let’s create some easy DIY Mickey pumpkins! Here we go!

Mickey Magic

With 2020 being all sorts of *scary* the Halloween season is the best time to break out your inner most creative self and add some Mickey magic into your home! With a few supplies and a spark of spooky creativity, the sky is the limit in the fun you can create!

What you’ll need:

  • Fake pumpkins. You can purchase at any craft supply store, your local Target Halloween section and my personal favorite: AMAZON!
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Craft foam, felt or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

How to create your Mickey Pumpkins:

1. Choose your theme! The possibilities are endless, but for this tutorial I’ll showcase my classic Mickey Pumpkin, Bat Mickey & Candy Corn Pumpkin

2. Paint your pumpkin accordingly. I suggest at *least* 2 coats of paint for the most vibrant and even finish. Be sure to let paint dry completely between coats. If you paint over while a layer is still drying it could make the paint clump or spotty.

*For the candy corn “ombré” look, start by painting your white layer first, then work your way down. While your paint is still semi-wet, use a clean paintbrush over where the color meets the next color block to help create this will help your colors “blend” for a seamless look. The photo below shoes the color striping pre-dry brush blending.

3. While your pumpkins are drying, use your preferred material (paper, foam or felt) to cut out Mickey face & details. I used regular heavyweight construction paper for my pumpkins and they worked out fine.

4. Once pumpkins are dry, glue on your Details.

5. Display for some perfect pumpkin goodness!

A Happy Halloweentime at Home!
